Elizabeth Franco

Elizabeth is the Lead Editor and Writer at The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower and a former NYC public school teacher. As a child, she was often caught daydreaming or lost in a book. As a grownup, not much has changed. Crafting fantasy stories for young readers is a daydream come true. She is endlessly inspired by her two imaginative, wonder-filled children, Roman and Quinn.

Angela Báez

Angela is the author and editor of dozens of decodable books for children. Beginning readers are her favorite audience. As an educator for two decades, she believes they deserve the very best. Angela is happiest with a book in her hands, especially when snuggled next to her own two children.

Sarah Mann

Sarah is a writer and educator who has spent years working with teachers and students in classrooms across the country and internationally. A former NYC public school teacher, she now supports educators as a Staff Developer at The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower. She loves crafting stories she hopes will feel relatable to young readers. The Moonlit Mountain Readers is her latest work for kids, and she is thrilled to share it with beginning readers.

Jepilyn Matthis

Jepilyn supports teachers across the country and around the world. Originally from Texas, she now lives in New York City with her husband and loves to travel. She authored a previous set of decodable texts and has enjoyed co-authoring this series with her son, Kyle Matthis, an avid fantasy reader who brought his creativity and love of the genre to the Moonlit Mountain Readers. She hopes their stories will captivate young readers of all kinds.

Casey Maxwell

Casey is an educator known for her organizational skills, humor, and commitment to evidence-based practices. A dedicated staff developer, she creates a collaborative and enjoyable environment for educators. She served as project manager for the Daypack Decodables series, helping to develop resources that support early literacy. In addition to her work with educators, she contributes to organizational information management at The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower enhancing resources for teachers. She is excited to bring her expertise to the Moonlit Mountain Readers and hopes they inspire young readers.

Rebecca Cronin

Rebecca is an educator and writer who works with children, teachers, and administrators across the country to explore ways to read, write, and think together. She has spent over two decades as a Staff Developer, supporting schools in designing balanced and research-based curricula. When she’s not teaching or writing, you’ll find her dancing with friends, enjoying the California coastline, working in her garden, or playing with her grandchildren. Rebecca authored a previous set of nonfiction decodable texts and is excited to contribute to this latest decodable series and share her love of reading with young learners.

Logan Fisher

Logan brings a unique versatility to her work, seamlessly supporting both primary and secondary classrooms. Logan has a broad range of experiences and she is grounded in work with social and emotional intelligence, both of which inform her relationships with both teachers and kids. As a serious student of reading, writing, and phonics development, she understands both the first steps of literacy and the distant horizons of learning. She is an avid reader, thoroughly enjoying fantasy among other genres, and is excited to bring this love to young readers through this decodable series.

Natalie Friday

Natalie is a literacy consultant and educator who has spent her career supporting teachers and students in building vibrant learning communities. A lifelong children’s literature enthusiast, Natalie has a deep love for books, libraries, and cozy local bookstores. She is especially committed to the role of representation and identity in children’s literature, drawing inspiration from her own multi-racial blended family. Natalie is passionate about making literacy an inclusive space where all children can see themselves reflected in the stories they read.

Katie Even

Katie is a Staff Developer with The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower and a former public school teacher in New York City, San Francisco, and St. Louis. Known for her warmth, humor, and boundless curiosity, she brings joy to both young readers and the educators she supports. Katie has an irresistible enthusiasm for learning and loves joining kids as they delight in the quirky characters who populate the books they read and write. She shares her love of animals and plants with her chef husband, Josh, and their children, Walter and Johanna. She is thrilled to contribute to the Moonlit Mountain Readers and inspire beginning readers.

Katy Wischow

Katy works with teachers and students around the world, helping them to read, write, and speak their minds. She lives in Queens, New York, with her wife and daughter, and when she isn’t teaching, she loves exploring the world alongside her little one. She has dedicated her career to supporting educators and building strong learning cultures in schools. Katy is excited to contribute to the Moonlit Mountain Readers and inspire young readers on their own literacy journeys.

Katie Clements

Katie is the Director of Publications at The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower, where she leads the writing team in developing books, websites, tools, and curricula that extend the organization’s reach beyond professional development. Passionate about literacy, environmentalism, and social justice, Katie’s work is driven by a commitment to empowering educators and young readers. She is excited to contribute to this latest decodable series to inspire children through reading, both as an author and an editor.
